The City of Salem has a new assistant police chief. Joey Wheeler was sworn into office during a special ceremony last week. Wheeler has been a member of the police department since May 27, 2007.
"Being promoted to Assistant Chief is an incredible honor and I believe an affirmation of my dedication to the department," he said. "I take great pride in knowing my fellow officers spoke out in favor of this promotion. I intend to repay them by working diligently with Mayor Bower and Chief Merry during their efforts to develop a better trained, proactive, and community oriented police force. I sincerely hope our combined efforts will provide the citizens of Salem many reasons to be proud of their officers."
Wheeler is married to Dr. Tricia Wheeler and they have three sons.
