Washington County Christmas Parade

The 2013 Washington County Christmas parade theme will be "Christopher the Christmas Tree". Christopher the Christmas Tree was created by local resident George Bowers in 1968.  The story features Christopher, a small tree, seeking to be chosen as a family’s Christmas Tree.  He is joined by woodland friends.  It's an uplifting and creative story.

The Washington County Christmas Parade, organized by the Chamber of Commerce, will take place on Saturday, Nov. 30th, at 6:00 pm.  Participants are encouraged to use the theme in their entry.

Parade entries are encouraged to use lights – lots of lights – on their parade entries.  The parade does begin after dark!

Persons interested in purchasing the Christopher the Christmas Tree DVD, CD, and coloring book, may stop by the Chamber of Commerce Office.  These are autographed by Mr. Bowers.

The parade will begin from the parking lot at the American Legion Bingo Hall.  The parade will travel up Main Street to the Public Square.  The parade will follow normal traffic flow around the square and disperse on Walnut Street.  Participants are invited to come back to the square (on foot) to watch the Lighting of the Courthouse.  Awards will be announced following the Lighting of the Courthouse.

Christmas Parade Trophies will be awarded in the following categories:

  • Santa Award – Best representation of the parade theme (Celebrate Me Home)
  • Mrs. Claus Award – Best walking/non performing group
  • Reindeer Award – Funniest Entry
  • Caroling Award – Best performing entries
  • Sleigh Award – best decorated vehicle
  • Star Award – Most Unique
  • Christmas Award – Best over-all entry
