YMCA hires new CEO

The Board of Directors of the Washington County Family YMCA would like to announce the hiring of Robert Gilchrist as its Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Gilchrist recently served as the Aquatics and Fitness Coordinator for the City of Bloomington’s (IN) Parks and Recreation Department. Prior to that, he was an Associate Professor at the IU School of Public Health. Mr. Gilchrist has a Master of Science in Public Health from IU. He has also served as a reserve police officer for the City of Ellettsville (IN).

This is not Mr. Gilchrist’s first position within a Y. He was first hired as the Aquatics Director at the Corning FAMILY YMCA in upstate New York. Prior to that, he served at the Northhampton YMCA (MA), the YMCA of Greater Springfield (MA) and the Newport County YMCA (RI).

He is a graduate of Springfield College in Springfield, MA where he met his wife, Kirsten. He has one son, James.

As the CEO of the Washington County YMCA, Mr. Gilchrist will oversee the overall operations of the Y facilities and its entire set of programs including fundraising and volunteer development. He will oversee the Y staff, work to attain the goals of Y and develop a vision for the Y.

Steven Brewer, Board Chair, states that, “The search committee was impressed with Rob on so many different levels and we believe the effort that he put forth in the interview is a precursor to the work that he will do on behalf of the Y and our community. Rob brings energy, enthusiasm and work ethic to this position. Although Rob has not progressed traditionally through the Y system he is deeply rooted in the Y which includes his academic work at Springfield College. We are anticipating great things to come!”

Mr. Gilchrist will start his position on March 24th.
