The Washington County Family YMCA will be hosting their annual 5k fundraiser on September 26th, 2015 to support their annual campaign.
Join the Y and partner WSLM Classic Hits Radio as they let loose in the 3rd annual charitable 5k event. This year, the 5k will take you “Back to the 80’s” as you move and groove the rhythm of the beats provided by WSLM. Participants are encouraged to come dressed in their best 80’s apparel and join in for the Warm Up Party scheduled for 7:45 am.
The race starts at 8:30 am, and will be followed by the Kids Fun Run, healthy treats, and vendors to visit. Awards will follow for top finishers and best dressed.
“We are really looking forward to a fun event,” said Kristy Purlee, the Quality Membership Director at the Washington County Family YMCA, and Event Organizer. “This event not only promotes fun and health, it also promotes social responsibility,” said Purlee. “In 2014, our charitable organization contributed $40,000 in financial assistance to individuals who otherwise would not have been able to participate in our programs and membership. We want to ensure that everyone has a chance to be a part of our cause—regardless of their financial situation.”
The YMCA offers financial assistance to families and individuals to ensure that everyone is able to participate in their mission. All proceeds raised from the 5k event will aid in making the financial assistance program possible.
Registration is now open, and those who register by September 11th will benefit from Early Registration discounts. Participants 0-5 are free, ages 6-12 are $10 per participant, and anyone 13 years and older will register for $20. Late registrations will be accepted up until the race starts, and prices for registering on or after September 12th will be $15 for the 6-12 age group and $25 for the 13 and up category. Early registrants (ages 6 and up) are guaranteed a shirt with their entry. Late registrants are not guaranteed a shirt.
Race day registration will begin at 7:30am. Runners and Walkers alike can register for the race to support a most charitable cause. A newly added warm up party led by YMCA fitness instructors begins at 7:45 am, with the race beginning at 8:30 am.
The 5k is sponsored by Pacers and Racers, Thomas E. Scifres, PC, Baird Homes Corp., Salem Apothecary, Salem Rental Inc., Scotty’s Sanitation, Inc., Washington County Assessor’s Office—Jason Cockerill, and Cynthia Winkler, Attorney at Law.
