The Washington County Family YMCA will be offering Aqua Zumba and Water Aerobics classes this July in partnership with the Salem Community Schools Corporation. These four week programs are designed for individuals looking to make a splash by adding low-impact, high-energy aquatic exercises to their fitness routine. Water Fitness provides a workout that has less impact on your joints, allowing participants to really let loose. The water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps to tone the body.
Both classes, Aqua Zumba and Water Aerobics, are open to all ages. Water Depths could be as deep as 5 feet, and it is encouraged that participants are able to stand in this depth. Lifeguards will be on duty at all times. Proficient swimming abilities are not a requirement for participation.
“If you can stand in the water you can come,” said Kim Beard, the Fitness Coordinator and Fitness Instructor at the Washington County Family YMCA. “These [classes] are a great way to tone and sculpt without impact on your joints.”
The Water Classes will be held at the Salem Middle School Pool. Aqua Zumba will be Monday evenings at 6:00pm July 11 th through August 1 st , and Water Aerobics will be Saturday mornings at 10:00am July 9 th through July 30th . The cost to register is $15 for members of the YMCA, and $28 for non-members. The registration deadline is July 1 st , 2016 by 9:00 pm. Stop in at the YMCA’s front desk, or go to http://wcfymca.org/index.php/register-for-program and search “swim” to register online for returning YMCA participants. Late registrations are made on a case by case basis past the July 1 st deadline, and will be assessed an additional late fee of $15 per person.
“We are so excited to bring this opportunity to the community,” said Washington County Family YMCA Youth First Director, Rosie Morehous. “We are fortunate to have community partnerships to do it, and EVEN MORE fortunate to have energetic, motivating, and FUN staff like Kim Beard to lead it. We are very excited that we will be offering Kids Club for these off-site Y programs. Participants can bring their children to the Y campus right before class, our wonderful Enrichment Counselors will ensure fun and safety while the class is going, and then parents can return to the Y after class for pick-up!”
