On June 17th, the City of Salem and the Salem Fire Department received a $20,000 grant from the Hoosier Uplands Economic Development Corporation. The grant is to be used for the replacement of a failing outdoor staircase, which is wooden and poses safety concerns due to deterioration. The Community Development and Improvement Program Grant allows the Salem Fire Department to have a safe and usable 2nd floor means of egress from the building. This grant will improve the current design by utilizing an all steel structure that the weather will not destroy. The City of Salem and the Salem Fire Department are grateful to Hoosier Uplands for this critical funding for improved Department safety.
