Last Saturday started out damp and dreary for the vendors of Washington County Farmers’ Market, but soon brightened, thanks to wonderful friends and neighbors who came by to buy produce and “talk”, mostly about the weather or the better than expected market. The big question of the day was, “will there be sweet corn next week? Some vendors say yes and some say maybe two weeks! Guess you’ll just have to come and see! The Washington County Farmers’ Market opens Saturday 8:30 am to 12:30pm and Tuesday evenings 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm, Washington County Fair Grounds.
The “First Saturday of the Month Big Zucchini Weigh-in” honors goes to Jared Baird’s first place zucchini of 5.52lbs, he won a dozen baby chicks from Akers Hatchery, while Ashley Wright’s 5.36 lbs ‘zuc’ wins a Jar of gourmet jam from Across the River Farm, third place Clinton Baker with his 5.20lbs received a delicious zucchini cake, and a sunflower went to fourth place Olivia Steward’s 5.14 lbs.
Buy produce from Washington County Farmers’ Market, help a local farmer! Give produce to Washington County Food Bank, help a local neighbor! Keeping with their new motto, 50 lbs of produce was collected for Food Bank last week. If you would like to aid the local Food Bank, there will be a collection box at this week’s market.
