Due to the great response, we are no longer taking reservations for the 2013 Polar Express event. We're filled to capacity.
Salem Parks and Recreation along with the Salem Public Library, Friends at the Depot, and Tri-Kappa Sorority once again will be presenting the “Polar Express” experience, Sunday December 8, 2013 at 2:00pm.
The event will be held at the Depot behind the Steven’s Museum and Pioneer Village in Salem.
“We had such a wonderful turnout last year, and thought it would be fun to bring the experience back for the community to share again this year”, said Denise Newkirk, P&R director. “It should be even more enjoyable with the additional space inside the Depot”, she added.
Santa will be seated on the back of the caboose, located near the Depot where children can talk with and give him this year’s Christmas “wish list”. In return he will have candy canes for them.
All will be then boarding the Polar Express as they enter the Depot. Conductor Cecil Smith will hand everyone a “Believe” ticket as each sits down to watch the movie. As conductor Smith punches the ticket and blows the train whistle the movie will begin.
During the movie all will be provided hot chocolate and cookies, adults included! Remember children must be accompanied by an adult.
As each leaves the Polar Express they will be given a “Believe” bell, an old fashion wooden train whistle, and a Polar Express activity booklet.
This is a free event for the community, and attendance is by reservation only. We will only be taking the first 80, and adults must be counted in the numbers. You may make your reservation by calling the Park and Rec. Office at 883-2895. If leaving a message just leave your name, phone number, and number in your party. Deadline to sign up is Monday December 2, 2013.
We are boarding the Polar Express in our pajamas, and remember…..”Sometimes the most real things in the world are the things you can’t see”, Polar Express.
