After years of a lot of talking and planning, a portion of the Salem bypass was officially opened last Thursday morning during a special ribbon cutting ceremony.
Indiana Lt. Governor Becky Skillman led the event pointing out the positive things happening in Washington County, including that the county’s unemployment rate is lower than the state average.
“I know this project has been a long time coming,” she said. “Infrastructure improvements are one of the main reasons new businesses want to locate here.”
She said the new bypass is a win-win situation for so many reasons; it will not only improve safety, but will help to boost the economy.
Mayor David Bower echoed her sentiments and said this is just another example of the city and county governments working well together.
Several city and county government officials and business leaders were there to witness the historic event.
